Omar Athman

Overview

Omar Athman is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and the Founder and Partner of HMA Advocates LLP, with a practice focused on legal compliance, governance, regulatory advisory, commercial law and dispute resolution. He brings a practical, risk-oriented approach to legal practice, helping organizations identify legal vulnerabilities, strengthen internal controls and align their operations with applicable statutory and regulatory obligations. Omar has a particular interest and expertise in legal audits and compliance management, including the assessment of institutional policies, contractual frameworks, governance structures, regulatory exposure and operational risks.

He also has experience in data protection and privacy regulation, particularly compliance with Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019. His work includes data protection compliance assessments, policy development, privacy documentation, lawful processing of personal data, data governance and recommendations for strengthening organizational compliance frameworks. He has undertaken compliance-related consultancy work involving public-sector governance and private-sector data protection.

Alongside his advisory practice, Omar has experience in complex litigation, commercial disputes, negotiation and alternative dispute resolution.
